This time of year we are madly setting resolutions.  Perhaps you’ve made some, are planning on setting some, or have already broken some – and if you’ve already broken them, you have a whole year to make up for it so don’t worry!  I personally love setting goals (SMART goals, and even little dumb ones), yet I find “intention setting” or goal-setting from a place of inspiration to be more effective. If you are like me, resolutions are like budgets and diets – meant to be broken.  Yet intention setting is about connecting with your values and what you are seeking more of in your life.

Start Within: How can you figure this out?

  1. Ask yourself what am I lacking, wanting, needing, dreaming about?
  2. Explore this by: journaling, creating a vision board, meditating and also creating space for this to happen.

Reflect at home:
Create the physical space in your home to honor this intention.  For example, you’re a mom with a goal of getting more sleep. What can you do with your space to create and set this intention?

  • Get new bedding
  • Remove electronics and clutter
  • Make your bed daily
  • Create a space in your room that reflects you and promotes relaxation (i.e. bedside table with candle, eye mask, book)
  • Buy black-out curtains
  • Stop Co-sleeping
  • Move your bed or even bolder – repurpose another room to be your bedroom

My Story, my room, my intention setting…
This past month, I did just this and I moved my bedroom back to its original room. After my partner and I separated, and surrendering to co-sleeping with my daughter, I wanted to make sure my intention and goal of “getting enough sleep” continued to improve.  My new room reflects this with a location that is quieter, more open, brighter, with a new bed and bedding to evoke sleep.  (Next up, putting a little romance in the space, but I’ll save that for another blog and month).

So, what does my new space reflect and invite?  More sleep, relaxation, self-care, inspiration, and creating a space that honors both my daughter and me.  For me to stay inspired and inspire others, it starts with a good night’s rest!

I started with what I call “inspirational mind-mapping” –  by mapping out what I wanted for the year from a place of inspiration.  Some years I just focus on a word like “Inspiration”, but this year there is so much I wanted that I broke it down into categories.  It has all to do with being inspired, inspiring others, and inspiring lifestyle changes for myself and my clients.  Just looking back to what my bedroom reflects now, I can see it honored most of what was written on my mind map.

Your turn! Ask yourself:

  • What do you want to create space for in your life?
  • How might your physical space be holding you back?

Room Revive offers Re-organization, Re-purposing and Refreshing spaces one room at a time! As a trained coach, I ask questions to learn more about you, get curious about your lifestyle while finding out what is working and not working for you.  Often your space can reflect what is going on internally and we can easily uncover this in our first meeting.  My hope is to listen while creating the space that will bring in what is desired and needed in life and in your home.  Then champion you to attract more of what you are wanting in your life.

Room Revive serves the SF Bay Area.
